Alan Steven Greene

Alan “Al” Steven Greene, 73 died peacefully on Saturday, August 9th, 2025. Born in St. Paul, MN on April 7, 1952, he grew up and raised a family in St. Louis Park and New Hope, MN. He was married for nearly 24 years to the love of his life, MariAnn “Mertz” Greene. Combined, they were blessed with four children (Jordan Greene [Rebecca], Adam Sosnick, Stephanie Kaufman [Justin], and Jennifer “Yosefa” Fain whom he all loved equally with his entire soul. Al was blessed with five grandchildren (Rory Fain, Leo Greene, Benjamin Greene, Adam Kaufman, and Evan Kaufman. He is also survived by his beloved brother and sister, Mark Greene [Marcia] and Eileen Elkin [Robert], as well as his two nieces, Hannah Zollman [Adam] and Mollie Levin [Matthew]. And finally, he was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mickey Greene. Al graduated from St. Louis Park High School in 1970 and soon began working alongside his grandfather shortly after attending the University of Minnesota in the furniture business representing various brands to independent furniture stores in the upper Midwest. Alan went on to open his own furniture store in Anoka, MN in1991 where his beloved Aunt Eunice Schoen z’l [Harry z’l] helped run it until its closure in 1994. He also worked under his close friend selling a popular engine additive, Sea Foam. From one of Al’s first (of many) jobs when still in college, he worked for a Minneapolis Butcher. In 2001, he re-met the butcher’s daughter, MariAnn, whom he only casually knew back then, and shortly thereafter they were married. After a short stint back in Minnesota, in 2003, MariAnn and Al moved back to Boynton Beach, FL until this time. From his early beginnings in the furniture business, he practiced a strong work ethic. And to all he sold to, they absolutely loved his unique character, demeanor, trust, and honesty. In fact, that was in instilled on his children Jordan and Stephanie in their own sales careers. Alan also sat on the first steering committee in 1984, creating the inaugural year of the Minneapolis Jewish Day School with only 19 students in Kindergarten – 1st Grades. He also enjoyed fishing, binge watching episodes of Hogan’s Heroes, the occasional cigar, and a good tongue sandwich! The family is grateful to the staff at Boulevard Rehab and Trustbridge Hospice in Boynton Beach, where he spent the last year of his life.
