Judith A. Rubenstein

Judith Pepi Allen Rubenstein, a trailblazing journalist, devoted mother and grandmother, and passionate advocate for thoughtful, informed media, passed away on May 28, 2025, at the age of 85 after a prolonged illness. Born in Swampscott, Massachusetts, Judith grew up with a deep love of language and learning. She graduated from Swampscott High School in 1957, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Jackson College at Tufts University in 1961, and went on to pursue a Master of Arts in Communication at the prestigious Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University. Judith lived in Syracuse, New York, where she and her husband, Dr. Harold Rubenstein (predeceased), raised their family and where Judith pursued her passion as an investigative journalist, editor, and publisher. Throughout her accomplished career, Judith brought insight and integrity to every role she held. She served as the editor of The Jewish Observer, where her thoughtful editorial voice resonated with readers across generations. Later, she made her mark in medical publishing as the founding editor and publisher of Podiatry Today, a nationally respected journal that remains an important resource in the medical community. Professionally, Judith was a force of insight and integrity. In addition to her professional contributions, Judith was deeply committed to her community. Judith and Harold were among the 13 founding families of Congregation Beth Shalom in DeWitt, New York, where she contributed her time and culinary talents to Sisterhood events. After relocating to Delray Beach, Florida, Judith and Harold continued to build and nurture community. Together, they founded the Social Activities Committee at Seagate Towers, where Judith also served as Treasurer and helped create a vibrant, connected community. Above all, Judith was most proud of her family. She is lovingly survived by her brother, Len Allen (Judith); her children: Mark Rubenstein (Jessi), Lori Fazzio (Steve), and David Rubenstein (Laura); and her five beloved grandchildren: Max, Meryn, Julia, Jack, and Ilana. Her family continues to carry forward her values of curiosity, compassion, and resilience. Judith will be remembered for her sharp intellect, her unwavering dedication to truth, and the deep love she held for her family and community. Her legacy lives on in the countless lives she touched as a writer, editor, mentor, and mother. May her memory be a blessing.
