Allen Sharkey

Allen Ira Sharkey was born in Brooklyn, New York on May 7, 1940 to Sue and Joseph Sharkey. He passed away surrounded by his family on April 22, 2024. Allen leaves behind his wife of almost 61 years, Marion Rudin Sharkey, three children Stephen David Sharkey, Suzanne Aileen Sharkey, and Kara Jill Sharkey, as well as 2 daughters-in-law….. Bonnie Benedict Sharkey and Gena Lopez. Allen was an avid sports enthusiast. Baseball and softball were his passion and he loved watching as well as playing. He loved the Yankees and the Brooklyn Dodgers (before they left Brooklyn) and he collected a significant amount of memorabilia. Allen was an athlete and not merely a spectator, He played on many teams and won many trophies for his efforts. He loved and played paddleball, racquetball, softball, pickle ball, squash and handball throughout his life. In the early 60’s Allen began his career with IBM. He graduated from Marist College with a degree in Math. At IBM, he started out doing data entry when that field was in its infancy. He excelled in his job and always had a good work ethic. During his career he earned the title of manager, program manager, senior program manage Allen retired from IBM in 1993 but he did not stop working. He secured consulting jobs with large firms such as KPMG, Accenture, JP Morgan Chase, and several others. He was instrumental in working with banks such as Credit Suisse to update and reconfigure computers to be compatible with the data in the new millennia. He enjoyed these assignments and was proud to effect changes that would be implemented in Y2K. Allen loved good food and good restaurants. He loved to try new dishes and dine at any and all places that were recommended to him. His favorite topics of conversation were sports and good food establishments. Traveling to him meant a trip to Disney World or a relaxing cruise. He was an easy going, pleasant, unpretentious guy to be around . He was hardworking and worked at H&R Block for almost30 years….up until the week before he passed away. His children, grandchildren and wife praise him and were blessed by his presence. He was the micro-manager of the family, taking care of any and all problems, large or small, within the family. Allen will be missed by all who knew him.
